sombarey : landslide

Sombarey: on Night of 19^th August 2009 a landslide in front of BDO Office claimed 2 lives. It was on about 8:30 in the evening when there was a heavy rainfall a group 11 people from thana colony just below the BDO Office west to the BDO Office taking a white sawari SK-04-7457 to divert the canal that flooded the house of Mr.K.K Pradhan ICDS Superviser, Samgam Hingmang , Mr.L.D. Sharma HM Okherey and Mr. Kishan Chettri. Most of the people went outside the vehicle busy clearing the canal when the landslide came and carried the vehicles with an old man named Puspamani Pradhan (Kaka) and samir subba who were showing the light from the vehicle were missing till morning and later found inside the vehicles and one drowned and buried in the drain of the BDO Office both dead. The land slide damaged four houses and two kitchens. RMDD AE who came to assist the group got buried till the hip and was rescued he got his lower body critically injured and was airlifted directly to New Delhi. About 20 people was injured in which a couple in still in the hospital. The connecting road to Govt. Senior sec. school has been washed away . the flush flood that came from the above flooded the house of Mr. CP Subba PGT Buriakhop SSS and the whole of Gopal colony. The rescue team of SSB and police worked the whole day . SDM Soreng , SDPO Soreng and area MLA Mr. Tenzi Sherpa was present the early hours. Later a team from DC office visited the site including the PWD Minister Mr. R. B Subba . some landslide was also reported form lungchok where some cattle shed was buried with some paddy field flooded.
